The chemical industry is a key pillar of Spain’s industrial base, but it faces high energy and production costs, regulatory uncertainty and significant investment needs to advance its decarbonisation. These challenges threaten the sector’s competitiveness at a time when European climate and industrial policies are accelerating the transition towards low-carbon production.
At this event, we will present the report produced by the ‘Decarbonising the Chemical Industry’ working group, held between March and July 2026. Through this initiative, alinnea brought together representatives from the chemical industry, public authorities, the financial sector and civil society organisations to build a shared vision of the technological, regulatory and investment needs involved in advancing the sector’s decarbonisation.
