alinnea has participated in a new session of the EU–China Think Tank Engagement on Green Governance, a platform for exchange between European and Chinese institutions aimed at strengthening cooperation on green governance, with a particular focus on just transition.

During the meeting, alinnea presented its main lines of work, as well as its initiatives in the field of climate transition and sustainability, in line with its role as one of the think tanks engaged in this international dialogue.

The session also featured the work of the IE-iGDP Just Transition Observatory, a joint initiative by IE University and the Institute for Global Decarbonization Progress (iGDP), focused on the analysis and monitoring of just transition policies. In particular, the Observatory presented its work on indicator frameworks designed to translate high-level just transition principles into actionable and measurable tools for policymakers and key stakeholders. By structuring data across economic, social, environmental, and governance dimensions, this approach helps identify progress, gaps, and priority areas, supporting more informed, collaborative, and evidence-based decision-making in the climate transition process.

IE University also presented its institutional model and international footprint, highlighting its role as a platform for knowledge and academic engagement in the field of ecological transition.

For their part, the Chinese delegation shared insights into the country’s progress on just transition, highlighting the development of a national strategy aimed at ensuring a balanced and inclusive transformation. In this context, they presented concrete examples such as the restoration of the Haizhu National Wetland Park in Guangzhou, a flagship urban ecological recovery project that has transformed more than 11 square kilometers of degraded land into a key green space at the heart of a megacity.

The meeting enabled a technical and strategic exchange between both sides, contributing to a deeper mutual understanding of governance frameworks and the tools required to address the challenges of the climate transition.

alinnea’s participation in initiatives of this kind reinforces its commitment to fostering international dialogue and generating knowledge on just transition, helping to build bridges between Europe and China at a critical moment for global climate action.
