Coffee-Talk: Transforming the Agri-food Chain to Compete: turning the Climate Challenge into an Opportunity

Spain is facing a decisive moment in the transformation of its agri-food value chain. Despite the sector’s major economic and productive importance, progress remains uneven in the integration of low-carbon practices, agricultural digitalisation and sustainable finance mechanisms.

This event, organised by alinnea and Ibercaja, will take place at Zaragoza Trade Fair during the opening day of the International Agricultural Machinery Fair (FIMA).

The event will feature the presentation of the report “Driving the Climate Transformation of the Agri-food Value Chain”, which sets out the conclusions of the working group promoted by alinnea throughout 2025 to discuss how to transform the agri-food value chain through innovation, business models and climate finance.

The report provides an initial diagnosis of the main barriers the sector faces in responding to the climate challenge and puts forward a set of recommendations to address them. These are the result of the joint work carried out by the organisations and sector experts participating in the working group.

The presentation will be delivered by Ana Belén Sánchez, Director of alinnea. This will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Francisco Sánz, Head of Sustainable Finance at Ibercaja, with the participation of:

  • Manuel Linares Ávila, Director of the Brussels Office, Coordinator of Farmers’ and Livestock Organisations (COAG)
  • Amparo San José, Director of Network and Business Development for Southern Europe, EIT FOOD
  • Juan Sagarna, Director of the Department of Sustainability, Quality and Innovation, Spanish Agri-food Cooperatives
