The Greenland Crisis: How Climate Change is Reshaping Arctic Geopolitics

alinnea, in collaboration with IE School of Politics, Economics and Global Affairs (SPEGA), are pleased to host a conversation about the growing geopolitical importance of the Arctic as a consequence of climate change with Marzio Mian, award-winning writer and international correspondent.

The conversation will open with an introduction by Borja Santos, Dean of SPEGA, and will continue with a discussion moderated by Ana Belén Sánchez, Director of alinnea.

In this session, Marzio Mian will present his latest book, “Guerra blanca. En el frente ártico del conflicto mundial” (Ned Ediciones, 2025), an in-depth investigation into the geopolitical, environmental and strategic implications of the growing dispute over the Arctic. Drawing on more than 15 years of field research, Mian offers a compelling analysis of climate change as a driver of global power dynamics in one of the world’s most critical regions.
Marzio Mian (Fanna, 1961) is  one of the world’s leading experts on the Arctic’s geopolitical relevance. For more than 15 years, he has conducted field research on the impact of climate change on Arctic geopolitics and regularly contributes to outlets such as The Guardian and Harper’s Magazine. He is the author of several books and was awarded the Estense Prize in 2025.
